Con Magee Glenravel 0:12 -- Cloughmills 3:11

We went into this semi final match with a few wins under our belt in the recent Feis competition and quarter final matches against St.Endas, so we were feeling fairly confident that this was a match we could perform well in.

The game had barely started, 53 seconds in fact, when a Cloughmills attack had the ball in our net for a 3 point advantage. Vic reduced the deficit to 2 points from a sweetly struck 60 yard free. Both teams hit a wide apiece. Strong work from Cloughmills robbing the ball from our defender Soda, sent the ball into their forward line and again they hit our net, raising the green flag in the 5th minute. Big Niall Donnelly then pointed a free in the 8th minute, but yet again one minute later they hit our net, despite a diving Chris McCann. This put us 7 points adrift. Ten minutes on the clock and from a bad Cloughmills sideline cut, Vic stole possession of the sliothár and split the uprights from 65 yards. We then missed 2 scores from a 70 and a free. We then had an opportunity for a goal, but their keeper pulled off a great save. His defence then cleared the ball down field, from which they scored a point. Vic working hard at midfield, pointed again as he struck a massive point from over 80 yards, to which the Glenravel fans applauded. We then had another two wides, to which Cloughmills added another two scores in the 19th and 20th minutes. There was then a period of great harrying, determination, blocking and good stick work as we pointed three times in a seven minute period. St Brigids were now on the back foot, as we had raised the tempo of this game. Twenty minutes gone, when Padge claimed the ball from Turbo. He then evaded two Cloughmills defenders and sent a high looping ball over the bar. We shot another wide, before the ref called for the sliothár at half time.

Glenravel :09 Cloughmills 3:03

After a stern team talk at half time, we came out and right from defence we sent the ball down to Niall. He struck a ferocious effort, but the Cloughmills keeper was equal to it, with a spendid save. This would have brought the teams level. But yet again, we conceeded silly frees and they punished us three times, in as many minutes. 39 minutes lapsed before Niall scored a 21 yard free, to put us 5 behind. Four more consequtive wides didn't help our cause, meanwhile Cloughmills were adding more scores to their tally. Willy Hughes got a yellow card, for chopping down on his opponent in the 44th minute. There was then periods of great work from our team, especially between Niall and Vic who worked the ball forward, but we just couldn't develop scores from our possession. Kevin Heggarty came on for Stevie Atcheson in the 49th minute and was an immediate threat, striking the ball for goal, but again Cloughmills cleared the ball. A great understanding between Vic and Niall set up the latter for another score for the green and whites. Conor Donnelly, just back from injury, was introduced to the game for a jaded Ron McCann who worked tirelessly for 51 minutes.

Fergus and Shan Lee got booked in the later stages of this match, not for violent play more so frustration for not getting any ball rentention. Niall again pointed between the uprights in the 57th minute, which turned out to be our last score. Two late scores for Cloughmills was to be the last outcome of this match, as the ref called for the sliothár. On a final scoreline of Con Magee Glenravel :12pts Cloughmills 3:11

Going 3 goals down inside a 10 minute spell would cause any team to throw the towel in, but to our teams credit they battled bravely to reduce the half time deficit to just 3 points. When you look at the overall scoring we pointed 9 scores to Cloughmill's 6 scores. We also shot 5 wides. Also we kept them from scoring in the last 10 minutes of the first half. On resume of the second half we had plenty of possession but could'nt convert these into scores. We had at least 3 golden chances for goals but dogged defence and great saves from their keeper kept us from raising the green flag. The St. Brigids manager said afterwards that this was their hardest match this year. We can take alot of positives from this game and erradicate the negatives, and help take us forward into our current league campaign.

Decky, Twig worked hard.Again Vic took vital scores as did Niall who was catching some great high ballls. Windows and big Shan Lee played with great passion.
