Lavey 2-13 Glenravel 2-10

A hugely entertaining and free-flowing game at the fantastic Lavey complex on Thursday night saw a match played at high tempo between two evenly matched teams. Playing their first competitive match of the season (Lavey having previously defeated Ardboe, Dungiven and Bellaghy) Glenravel opened brightly and had 1-1 (Declan Traynor) on the board before the home team pegged back with well taken points from play. Still a well-worked major from Caolan McCambridge after good work from Christy O'Kane and David Higgins and a fine individual point from Declan Diamond saw the Green &Whites 2-3 to 0-7 ahead at the short whistle. Buoyed by the first half performance Glenravel forged further ahead and led 2-8 to 0-9 with 15mins remaining. However perhaps due to constant rotation of all 21 players, any system or shape was lost and Lavey capitalised outscoring Glenravel 2-4 to 0-2 in the closing quarter. This was a fine all round team performance from all the panel, features of which were the tigerish Mark O'Connor and Conor Garry in defence, the return of Joshua Quinn in midfield, the coolness of McCambridge up front, the cameo of Declan Traynor and the fantastic engine of Josh McKeown.

Panel: Niall Black Mark O'Connor Conor Garry Jamie Dougal Josh McKeown (0-1) Paul Donnelly Joe Scullion Paul F McGuckin Conor McNeill (0-1) Joshua Quinn Michael O'Mullan Karl Delargy Declan Diamond (0-1) Caolan McCambridge (1-6) Conor Grant David Higgins Declan Higgins Christy O'Kane Jordan McNeill Karl Fitzpatrick Declan Traynor (1-1)

Ballymena 1-6  Glenravel 3-11

This was our first outing of the season against a team that will not be in our section of the SW league.  In typical blustery conditions Glenravel always dominated but Ballymena pushed us hard throughout.
The early exchanges saw a goal and two points from Connor McNeill, a point from Jordan and two from Karl at midfield with just one point in reply.  Ballymena hit a purple patch with three points in a row before Jordan hit the net and Gareth caught the keeper off his line.  A point from Connor followed by one from Ballymena took the game to half time.
Scores were harder to find in the second half as Ballymena became more organised.  We scored two points each from Karl and Connor and one from Jordan.  Ballymena tested our backline more in this half but it withstood their attacks conceding just one goal and one point.
At times play was scrappy but there were some good moves resulting in some excellent scores.  Defensively we were well organised and the attacking runs of our wing backs was a feature of the game.  Our younger players featured well and young Connor Sharpe and Ryan O’Connor came on at half time to give good accounts of themselves.
Our next game is in Greenlough on Saturday afternoon.
Good luck to all those going to the football trials on Saturday morning.

Can you list on the web site anything planned at the clubhouse on St Paddys Day.
Actually not very sure what's on; maybe someone else can reply. I understand we plan to show the 2 club finals during the day, but not sure what's on at night. There are signs up in Martinstown advertising it.

Div 6 Match vs Aghagallon on Sunday 14th March

Well Done to all 17 players on Sunday past who made the long journey to Aghagallon for the first match of the new season.

Aghagallon will be one of the stronger sides in this Division and, on Sunday, had the added luxury of using a few of their Senior Players. It was a useful first outing for our side, where the two-fold objective this year is to give regular football to those outside the Senior team, and to provide a platform for the younger lads to make the transition from minor and U21 to senior football.

Sunday's game was particularly notable for the performances of Neil Black in goals ( kick-outs were excellent), a typically robust performance from Danny Dowds at wing-back and Gerard O'Callaghan at centre-half, sweeping up and distributing the ball well to the half forward line. Skipper Paul O'Hagan was solid as a rock at full back.

At midfield, Paul Reynolds was in superb form - harassing and tackling his opposite number and linking the play - he provided the perfect foil for the returning Michael Mc Quillan whose strength and surging runs caused the home defence all sorts of problems.

Up front, we had a very good performance from Ryan Mc Glade as playmaker at No 11 with good support from Paudie Kerr and Christy O'Kane, particularly in the 2nd half, with Darryl snatching a good opportunist goal.

However, the star of the show was Josh Mc Keown - a brilliant performance throughout. In the thick of the action, working up and down the pitch and an outlet for the defence at every opportunity. The 2 difficult frees he converted from near the left and right sidelines were a taster of what we can expect this season.

PS - A big Thank You to Higgsie for his performance as stand-in ref.

Well Done lads, no disgrace in defeat  - now let's get to the training!!

Well done to all the 'girls' who played in the football blitz today with Ballymena. Everyone battled well in the chilly conditions and showed some great fighting spirit. The training and spring league is definitely helping with the skills !! Thanks to Padraig + Ian and all the other mentors.
