Glenravel Primary School Girls will be going forward to represent the South West in the County Finals after edging by their fellow clubmates from St.Mary's Cargan on Friday. The two sides defeated other primary schools from Ballymena, Randalstown and Crumlin and in the league stages of the competition Glenravel Primary School just edged St.Mary's Cargan by a point.
The final was very exciting with St.Mary's going ahead by a goal before Glenravel pointed. They added on a goal to take the lead and with St.Mary's trying very hard to pull the match out of the fire, Glenravel scored another goal to kill of any hopes St.Mary's had.
Having watched most of these girls come up through the fundamentals programme over the past 5 years I was extremely pleased with their skill level, their teamwork and their tenacity. With the level of interest there is,(from both players and parents) and the talent that we have in the club the furture certainly looks promising for girls footballers. Good luck to Glenravel Primary School in the County Final.

Another all Glenravel final in the Primary Schools' SW Antrim Girls' Gaelic Blitz. Glenravel won narrowly after a very exciting final! Some very good footballers on display! The good work being done by Padraig and his helpers is certainly paying off. Well done to both schools and good luck to Glenravel PS who now go on to represent SW Antrim in the All County Finals in the next few weeks.

Con Magees 6 : 13 Cárey 1 : 13 Our senior hurlers played a friendly today(saturday) against Cárey Faughs. This was a game with Con Magees dominating the first half very comfortably but letting the opposition to score more freely in the second half. Some of our players were taking some great scores including Shán-Lee, Stevie Atcheson, Ron, Vic and some skillfull sideline cuts from Neil Donnelly. We came out the second half allowing Cárey to dictate the pace for some periods and they picked off some scores mainly from frees which we gave away. This frustrated us a little and got a few players nervous but we coped well and dealt with their threat. Soda, Deccy, Fred, Windows and the rest of the defence coped well and shut out anything Carey had on offer, midfield worked tirelessly including Cormác, and our forwards picked off scores from every corner of the pitch. The pick of the scores was a sideline cut from the "evergreen" Vic who struck the ball cleanly from 45 yards right between the posts, thus entertaining some of the home crowd on the balcony (Tony, Rodney etc ) Shortly afterwards the ref blew the fulltime whistle and we ran out convincing winners. We will have stronger matches ahead with the league starting with a home game on wednesday night(21/4/10) against Armoy, so we need full attendance at training on Monday evening at 7pm. Slán

I have not included my name to protect the identity of my child.....however I would appreciate this comment being entered onto the guestbook.......What is the club's policy regarding attending training sessions for underage players who play gaelic, hurling and soccer for Club,County and School at various age level? Some of these underage players could be playing upto 6 matches a week and be expected to attend upto 3 training sessions a week. On occasions two matches a day have been played by some of our underage players. Although these players may be fit and healthy this type of abuse to their bodies cannot and should not be sustained or condoned by any mentor. I welcome a discussion on how best to manage this issue if there are no set policies currently in place within the club.
One for our youth officer. You should also feel free to approach the Con Magees committee on this as well. I wouldn't suggest we maintain the dialogue on this particular issue on our Guestbook.

The Senior Reserves travelled up to Tir na nOg today with both teams looking for their first points to get them off the mark. We arrived at the pitch due to some injries and absences. We started off with a grest display of football with some great passing and support play which gave us a very deserved lead. We had some well taken points/goal in the first half form Ronan (3), PJ (1), Colm (1), Gerard (1) and Niall (1-1). We went in at half time with the scores at 1-08 to 0-05 in our favour after a great display of football. We came out in the 2nd half very much on the backfoot with Tir na nOg throwing everything at us and we struggled to find a reply! We coped well with the pressure and the "not so great" refereeing. We were in the lead comfortable enough then they struck back of the net which put the teams level. In the dying minutes of the PJ O'Boyle made a darting run from sideline and struck the ball low which to everyones shock the keeper saved and then followed with his trusty leg peg as nice as like stuck it over the bar! (whether he meant it or not is for you to decide). The match came to an end with Glenravel leaving the more disappointed side leaving with a draw and a red card (you know who you are).
Final score: Glenravel 1-11 Tir na nOg 1-11
Team: Niall Black, Paul Mc Neill, Paul O'Hagan, Jamie Dougal, Danny Dowds, Gerard O'Callaghan, Ryan Mc Glade, Niall Donnelly, Paul Reynolds, Colm Higgins, Paul Mulholland, Paddy O'Hagan, Daryll Reid, Ronan Higgins, PJ O'Boyle
