wondering why are result against cargin toome isnt up, wee seem to put up all games were we win but not loose an unfortunatly we need to take more of a look at why were are getting beat at the minute an espically by 30+ points against a team we should be challenging? as am sure we are all aware we need to "get the finger out" an get to training!

Glenravel won their McCormick cup match against Antrim. Big support needed in Ahoghill this Sunday as we are now in a semi-final crunch match againt Cargin. (Brings back memory's of a final a few year's ago against Cargin in the same competition - I know the outcome can be different this time - isn't that right Dessie?)

Our U16s registered a good win over Cushendall Ruairi Ogs on Monday night overturning a six point deficit at the midway point to run out easy winners on a score line of 4:17 to 4:11. The pleasing aspects were the number of points from play and the courage shown when we realised that a slap with a hurley is not life threatening.
The first half was end to end excitement with Our boys putting two points on the scoreboard before Ruairi Ogs pulled level and then nudge ahead by one. On the ten minute mark Cushendall playing quick hurling from corner back thru’ midfield and on to the full forward line, hit a maximum. Our lads weren’t to be outdone. From the puc out the sliothar was fielded in the centre of the Fr Maginn Park and laid off to Declan Traynor who with blistering pace left his marker in his wake and finished to the net. Cushendall hit a purple patch and their movement up front had our backs chasing their tales and in a state of confusion. In this period they put over three unanswered points and hit the net twice. Conleth McNeill lead the come back with a goal from a 21 yard free and a glorious point from a sideline cut 45 yards from goal. Declan added with a point of his own as the short whistle sounded with the scoreboard reading, St Brendans 2:06 Cushendall 3:09. A number (four) of easy tap ins were missed that would have put a different reflection on the halftime score and we would have been well ahead.
What ever was said at halftime had an affect on the lads as they never stopped running in the second half. The second half was a King Midas period where everything that was touched became pure gold. The half backs and midfield turned every sliothar and when they missed the sliothar the fullback line were there to mop up. The forwards were on fire with five of the six scoring from play within the first 10 minutes of the restart. The hurling became intense and the quality got better and better with Cushendall playing a big part in a thoroughly fantastic advert for hurling. We were now scoring from every angle and to top it off the pace of our boys and the directness of play was leading to goal chances of which some flew over the bar while others hit the net. A great performance in the second half and one that needs to be built on as we improve week in week out in the lead up to the McMullan Cup.

With reference to "Balcony Boys"
Firstly, can I say that as this person had a fair point to make however did not feel comfortable putting their name to it, they should be allowed the opportunity to air it.
Secondly, I believe that it is up to every member of this club to challenge this sort of abuse should they hear it and I am as guilty as the next person of turning a deaf ear to it. To draw a parallel to this: Should a club member witness somebody throwing stones at the windows of the community building would they go immediately and stop the culprits or walk away and tell a member of the executive whos response is to issue a letter to all members asking them to refrain from doing this? Windows are alot easier replaced than the confidence of a player who is the subject to a tirade of abuse and it is galling that we club members stand meekly by while this goes on. I know of one father who was at the match who had to ask his children to move to another part of the field because of the language. This is simply not good enough.
There are countless hours put into the development of players before they reach the senior team and to see some of them walk away from the game because of this has to be stopped and it is time for everyone to put their heads above the parapet. Enough is enough.

Hard luck to the minors last nite who suffered a one point defeat by 'league favourites' rasharkin. A 3 goal rally in the last ten minutes was just enough to put st brendans away. Any supporters or players from glenravel would be greatly appreciated as they are scarse at the minute.

As an uncle of a young budding footballer I thought I would take my nephew to the game tonight and let him experience his first senior game, all we experienced was language which can only be described as disgusting from a few older members of the club. I thought 'supporters' were meant to encourage the team, not verbally abusing them at every chance with foul language. Its fair enough having super changing rooms & 8 out of 8 victories but unless we tackle the problem of abuse to match officials and teams, we wont have any young players coming through as they will get sick of the 'balcony boys' and their foul and disgraceful language.
Appreciate the sentiments expressed in this posting and clearly something we all need to be aware of, however we much prefer people to use their name when posting on the Guestbook.
