McCormick Cup S-Final Cargan 1 08 Glenravel 4 16
An easy victory in the end but with ten minutes played the Toome men were 4 points in front when Brian Birt saved a penalty. Our boys then started to play and at the interval lead by two points. Two early points and a goal and then Glenravel played some fast open football and took some fine scores to coast into the final.Hightlights were two penalty saves from Brian Birt,Great freetaking by Josh McKeown and an exabition of high fielding from man of the match Colm McCambridge.Next league game is away to StTeresas on Wednesday evening and a large Glenravel could make a big difference

U16s McMullan Cup - Dunloy 4:09  St Brendans 5:11

The U16s came through a trilling encounter on Monday night when they travelled to Dunloy on a perfect night for hurling. However it was Dunloy who got off to a great start hitting the net and pointing in the first five minutes. St Brendans looked shell shocked as this was meant to be an ‘easy walkover for us’!! Again to the fore came the rescue team of Conleth and Conor McNeill with Declan also firing over from a determined 30 yard solo. Declan then hit the net to give St Brendans a two point lead only for Dunloy to put two past the St Brendans net minder Michael McHugh. Dunloy were having great success with the high ball into TT in full forward and although Colm Nesson was winning his fair share of sliothar it was TT who was punishing the Bennys with his fantastic fielding and his majors. Tactical changes were made to cover the high ball and this gave the forwards a platform to work from. The last fifteen minutes of the first half saw St Brendans scored two culs of their own and at the short whistle they lead 3:03 to 4:04.
Dunloy again started the stronger after the break and registered three unanswered points before Eoin Magee and James Duffin stopped the rut by firing over for St Brendans. Eoin then fielded a high ball delivered magnificently by Andrew McLarnon and finding himself on the corner of the small square he swivelled and ‘bang’ the net shook. Declan and Conleth added points before TT, Paddy D and Ryan rallied for Dunloy with three fine individual points. Conleth and Ryan exchanged points and as Tommy McIntyre blew to signal the end of play the score board in the corner of Pearse Park read Dunloy 4:09 Visitors 5:11. It was good to meet up with some of the Glenravel / St Brendans old guard namely Phelim and Seamas Duffin who are now plying their trade with Dunloy Cuchullains as did their father Shay Paul many, many, many years ago.

Team:- Michael McHugh, Conor McKeown, Colm Nesson, Donn Whelan, Donal O’Hara, Aidan Corbett 0:03 (0:02-65s), Peter Mulholland, Andy McLarnon, Mathew McCartan, Connor McNeill 0:02, Ruairi Laverty 0:01, Declan Traynor 1:05, James Duffin 1;01, Conleth McNeill 1:06 (0:03f), Eoin Magee 1:00, Pearce Bannon, Daniel McConvery, Michael Dunn.

PS It is good to see a report from the Glenarm / St Brendans match and even better to see Christy and Josh being prolific in front of the target. Good report. It takes a big effort for those players to go to Cushendun and Cloughmills to train week in week out pure dedication. It also shows what effort those from Cushendall, Glenarriffe, Carnlough, Loughgiel, Cloughmills, etc are putting in when training and lining out for 'our' club.

Would it be possible for the U16 football coaches to consider moving the training session time on a Sunday morning to at least 20 minutes later. This would allow the players to attend the 11 o'clock mass (which they are fully entitled to attend and should be fully encouraged to do so) without incurring an extra training exercise as punishment for being late.

St Brendans Minors beat Glenarm last Friday night by 5 points. The game could be summed up as alot of fast hard hurling and silly wides. The Bennys got off to a good start with two points from Christy O'Kane and a well taken 21 yard free by Conleth McNeill. Our backs were then put under some serious pressure by a few of Glenarms forwards but over all came out on top with James Magee and Sean Hamilton dominating in the full back line. Glenarm started to liven up and won a lot of puc outs and took some fine scores coming up to the break, but some good free taking and great running from debutant Niall McGarry kept our comfortable lead going in at half time. The start of the second half was all Glenarm with them scoring from every angle and their keeper on fire saving everything thrown at him, which left the game level with 10 mins to go. But St Brendans gave themselves a shake with forwards like josh mckeown and eoin magee working well. St Brendans then stole back the lead with another point from christy o'kane. Glenarm still looked like possibly sneaking a draw untill josh put the final nail in the coffin by rattlin the onion bag right at the death. This was a hard fought game in front of a large crowd in cushendun and a good win against Larne in the coming weeks could see St brendans reaching the final.
