Folks,
Without wishing to give the subject any further "airtime", could I suggest that all Con Magees club members stop making posts on the Hogan Stand website - in reference to some unsavoury incident, apparently involving our subs and some female Randalstown supporters. at Saturday night's match.
The whole ping-pong of posts is pathetic and is adversely impacting on the club's reputation - and the excellent progress being made on the field this year.
One simple message - Stop It - The pitch is where you do your talking!!
Regards
Alec

Considering exams and injuries, fielding 2 football teams in away games on a Wednesday night and having 3 subs for the seniors and 2 for the reserves was some achievement. Well done to everyone, especially ryan and pj for pulling together the reserve team. Now lets make an effort to get as many as possible out to training.

Senior Reserve Match 26th May
Antrim 0-12 Glenravel 0-03
On Wednesday night, the reserve panel faced a tough opponent away to Antrim. Having originally thought that we would have a somewhat depleted squad due to the crucial senior match to st theresas, we travelled up with what should have been a very strong outfit, thanks to pj pulling a few strings, seeing the return of a few old faces...
From the outset, we were camped in our own half, Antrim had two very tall midfielders, who dominated the proceedings and dictated much of the play, despite the best efforts of our midfield of paul and eamon heggarty.
Both the half back line and full back line were under a great deal of pressure for the duration of the first half. Antrim had popped over a number of impressive scores from some good build up play. It wasn't until the last few minutes when pj slotted over a difficult free from distance, which paddy mctoal then added to just before the whistle, to leave the scores 0-06 0-02 at half time in favour of Antrim.
The second half seen a slight improvement in our performance, we were having a little more joy in the middle of the field. Ryan and Alec were relentless in the half back line, never giving up on a single ball. However, despite our best effort, Antrim continuted to inflict more pressure on the defence, adding another few points to the board. A fine point from Eamon Higgins narrowed the gap ever so slightly between the teams, but it was Antrim who emerged from the game worthy winners.
In reflection, this game was a very frustraing affair for our reserve team, we know that we have a lot more potential than was on display in this game. It must also be emphasised that we get training hard and the results will follow.
Team: Padraig Kerr, Gerard O'Mullan, Paul O'Hagan, Barney Hughes, Ryan McGlade, Gerard O'Callaghan, Alec McQuillan, Eamon Heggarty, Paul Reynolds, Daryl Reid, Eamon Higgins, Paddy McToal, Pj O'Boyle, Niall Kelly, Jamie Dougal..... Danny Dowds, Davey McKeown

Our reserve team made the journey to league leaders St Comgalls Antrim on Wednesday night in what was expected to be a tough encounter considering this Antrim team had been unbeaten all year.
We fielded a strong side considering the few players we had missing through exams and call ups to the senior squad. The game started at a good pace with Antrim going 4 pts to the good until a great ball into the corner by Alec McQuillian was won by Niall "Justin Timberlake" Kelly who was fouled and Pj O'Boyle slotted the resulting difficult free kick with the aid of the upright. We gradually got to grips with the strong Antrim midfielders and Eamon Hegarty (who apparently was on a sunshine weekend holiday last weekend, although I didnt see much tan!) and Paul "Rocky" Reynolds coming to the fore and we finished the half strongly with a very well taken score by Paddy McToal who was making his second appearnce of the year. With the strong words from Alec & Ryan at half time still ringing in the players ears we started the second on top but our failure to convert scoring chances and Antrims ability to convert theirs was the main difference between the 2 sides. Eamon Higgins tagged on our 3rd point with a well taken score. Antrim tagged a few soft frees and the game ended as a contest after this.
Overall this wasnt a bad performance against the league leaders. We were always in touch with them and until the last 10 mins there wasnt anymore than 2 kicks of a ball between the sides.
Paudi Kerr was safe as houses in goals, his kick outs were generally good and he kept the full back line of Gerard O'Mullan Soda and Barney Hughes on their toes. The half back line on Ryan McGlade, Ger O'Callaghan and Alec mcQuillian linked the play well and battled manfully against a strong Antrim half forward line. In midfield we held our own with Eamon Hegarty & Paul Reynolds never once giving the Antrim pairing any time on the ball or a clean catch. The Half forward line of Daryl Reid, Eamon Higgins & Paddy McToal had their hands full with an Antrim half back line who got forward at every opportunity and they stuck to the task of tracking back very well. The full forward line of Jamie Dougal, Niall Kelly and Pj O'Boyle always gave the midfielders an option going forward with Pj & Niall dropping deep in the second half to give other players a break. The 2 subs that came on in Davy McKeown ( yes Davy McKeown, your not seeing things) and Danny Dowds did very well also when they came on.
My man of the match was Paudi Kerr who pulled us out of hole and was very good in goals.

glenravel keep their unbeaten record last night drawing with St Teresas in Belfast.Getting off to the worst possible start losing a goal in the first minute after poor defendingTwo Josh McKeown points kept Glenravel in touch .Halfway through the half the home team lead by four but a great goal from Aidan McCafferty narrowed the gap and at the interval the score was 1 05 to 103 to the belfast men.A great start to the second period with points from David Birt ,Martin and Paul Mulholland put Glenravel in front and in control.Missed chances were to cost our boys dearly and points from Damian Ohagan and Davd Birt looked like winning the game but a very poor referee frustrated Glenravel with fouls giving for hand passes but non for the home team and the final straw came when he disallowed a fisted point from David Birt and said you are not allowed to score with a fisted pass.Glenravel were relieved to come away from the Glen Road with a point as a very home town ref spoiled the game and did all he could to Help St Teresas win TEAM Brian Birt Brian ONeill Martin Mullholland Damian OHagan Paul Mulholland Alastair McKeown Aiden McCafferty Colm McCambridge Davd Birt Conor Reid Aiden Carey Neill Donnelly Josh McKeown David Birt Kieran McKeown

U14 - St Brendans 2:07 Sean Stinsons 1:04
Team:- David Canavan, Cavin McCormack, Caolan Mullan, Michael Wade, Michael Reid, Michael Dunne, Conor Bannon, Pearce Bannon, Jonathan Fyfe, Daniel McConvery, Eamon Fyfe, Conor Carey, Conor McHugh, Ruairi McKeown
A great performance by an under strength team, scores from Jonathan Fyfe, Pearce Bannon, Michael Dunne put St Brendans into an early lead and as a team St Brendans were finding their players and putting Sean Stinsons under a lot of pressure. However a fortuitous drive from ‘Rooster’ playing at midfield for the visitors ended in the St Brendans net and the game was back on. Pearse was playing good direct hurling and when given the opportunity to fire over from the placed ball he always hit the target this helped St Brendans tag on two points before Sean Stinsons repeated their earlier feat by hitting the back of the net again. The second half proved to be a one sided affair with Jonathan hitting a point and St Brendans registering two culs.

U12 Go Games - St Brendans v Rossa
Glenravel Players: Conleth O’Loan, James Brown, Ciaran McCusker, Ronan Donnelly, David Canavan, Eamon Fyfe, Fintan Miskelly, Caolan Mullan, Odhran McAleenan, Michael McDonnell, Dean McKay, Conor Carey and Ruairi McKeown.
In a sunny Cushendun the Glenravel players met up with their fellow team mates of St Brendans U12 the opposition, Rossa. In all 24 St Brendans players took to the field and played three, fifteen minute periods with everyone guaranteed plenty of playtime. The older boys started proceedings with subs being introduced as the game moved along and with the whistle blowing to signal the end of the first period St Brendans lead by a goal and a point. The team was changed for the second period with the breeze in our backs we found it difficult to hold back the tide of attacks from Rossa and although we scored two great points the Rossa were getting into their stride with points and a goal leaving St Brendans a couple of points behind at the end of the second period. The final period saw more personnel introduced while also ensuring that the playtime was split evenly among all the players. We played well to hold Rossa to three points and we registered a good point of our own. Final Score Rossa ate two loaves and drank 18 soft drinks St Brendans got nothng to eat but finished on a score of one great effort and 45 minutes of fantastic play.
Everyone was a star performances and although no one should be singled out, the stars of the show were Conleth O’Loan (great comments from all around the pitch on his performance) for Glenravel who was the youngest man on the pitch but he caught ball a number of times, and went for everything with some very good pickups and strikes and also Connor McHugh for Cushendun who never stopped tackling and winning ball. The lads that were missing would have strengthened the team e.g. Oggie Laverty, Jack Higgins, Adam Nesson, etc the lads that played on the day were magnificent.

Congratulations to two of our club members who competed at the weekend in the Ulster Schools' Athletics finals and won the right to compete in the All-Ireland finals in Tullamore on Saturday week.
Ryan McIlroy was beaten by a very narrow margin to finish in second place in the 200m, while Roisin O'Kane came 3rd in the Discus. Good luck to both in the All-Irelands.
