Cushendall 2-2 v 2-3 Brídíní Óga

3 Aug 2009

August 3rd under 16 league: Cushendall 2-2 Brídíní Óga 2-3

An excellent comeback and great result against a Cushendall team that has beaten us at under 14 level for a couple of years now.

We started off well enough and pressed hard against the breeze – but failed to score. Cushendall came back at us and grabbed a goal that settled them down. They laid on a number of attacks but found Kerrie-Rose and Rachel in excellent form. Joanne had a great battle with Colleen Patterson while Shannon and her half-back line were working hard. Cushendall found the net again, but we attacked for the last five minutes and were rewarded with a point from Shauna.

In the second half we dominated the play and put the Cushendall defence under a lot of pressure. Eventually Maria found the net, Joanne added two points and then Shannon put us ahead with a long range effort. We could have won with more to spare – but one point was enough on the night.

The result means that we finish in the top six and play in the championship. The draw for this takes place on Monday night.
