This was an excellent run out for our boys against a capable Erin’s Own, Cargin team. Due to only 2 teams being involved in the blitz we played 3 periods of 10 minutes. Weather conditions were good, sun shining and pitch dry and firm. 1st Period During the initial stages the match was evenly balanced, with both team keeping the scoreboard busy, end to end action with our forwards including Conleth and Adam showing well and taking their opportunities. As this period wore on Erin’s Own got on top and pushed ahead however our backs stuck to their task with some superb harrying and blocking from Sean Paul and Michael. 2nd Period As usual the mentors switched the team to enhance the experience of the kids. However this may have worked to Cargin’s advantage and despite our best efforts the home team were on top during this session. Jack and Ruairi L worked tirelessly throughout and their catching & distribution of the ball was very good. James played in backs, marking tightly, fighting for possession and passing well. 3rd Period This was an evenly balanced period, little between the teams in terms of possession and on the scoreboard. Ciaran and Ronan played in the attack and were involved in some good moves which resulted in scores. Odhran and Ruairi McK operated between defence and midfield showing good awareness of their role, gaining control of the ball and using it well. In summary an extremely good performance from all of the boys, they are gaining more experience and developing their skills in competition with clubs like Erin’s Own.

On Saturday last our B team gave an excellent account of themselves over 3 ten minute games against Cargin. We were on top throughout these games and were able to change the team around so that everyone got a chance to play in all positions without impacting the flow of the game. What really pleased our mentors in this game was our focus on hassling the opposition right from their kick out so they didn’t win easy possession. Our defending started in the forward line and Cargin were hemmed in on their goal line for long spells especially when we went with an all girl full forward line of Kirsty, Laoise and Victoria. All the girls played exceptionally well up front with Kirsty bursting through and getting some fine scores. Donavan too had another fine game winning possession regularly and handing off great passes to his teammates for good scores. Donavan has really come on well in the past few weeks. The “Eoins” once again lorded it at midfield with McCusker, Hynds and McAuley all showing tenacity in the tackle and picking off a few good scores as well. Callum O’Loan and Naill Ferris were proving too strong for their markers. Callum rounded his man a few times and Niall had an excellent overhead catch and continually showed for the ball running into spaces and making it easy to pass to him. Johhny Duffin is really putting in some fine performances these days in both hurling and football and on Saturday he really showed he’d been practising his skills with some very silky footwork. Conor McAllister was back after a couple of weeks off and what a game he had. His catching, passing, tackling and scoring were excellent through all 3 games. This was a great performance and a special thanks to the team for their behaviour. Every time the mentors asked players to move to a different position they agreed with a smile and performed just as well in any position. Well done to all involved.
Team – Conor McAllister, Eoin McCusker, Donovan Woulahan, Eoin Hynds, Kirsty Laverty, Callum O’Loan, Victoria Edgar, Johnny Duffin, Niall Ferris, Eoin McAuley, Laoise McKenna.
On Saturday the C-team came up against a tough Cargin side but they certainly gave as good as they got. In the first 10 minute period Ellen and Rian used their experience in midfield and provided a great link between defence and attack. Indeed some of the players in the A and B teams could learn a thing or two from Ellen on how to tackle. Rian as usual work his socks off up and down the pitch. We had two debutants on the day, Michael Ferris and Bronagh Laverty. Both played well and we look forward to seeing them again with the Con Magees shirt on. During the 2nd 10 minute spell we mixed the positions around. Jude and his cousin Ali went to defence were they didn’t let the Cargin players through easily. Cathal went up front were he scored a fine point. Sean McCusker was a constant thorn in the Cargin side with his tough tacking and great solos. In the 3rd 10 minute spell Ryan Forde went into nets and what a brilliant move by the management that was. Ryan pulled of some fine saves and his long kickouts relieved the pressure. Declan was a real tiger in defence stopping the Cargin attack on several occasions. All in all it was a real good team performance. A really pleasing aspect was the workrate of the players. Well done!
