Glenravel 3-7 V Ballymena 1-3 On a bright cold night at Fr Magin Park we kicked off our 2009 league with a good match against near neighbours Ballymena. There was a stiff wind blowing across the field but we started strongly with Ryan and Andrew working hard at midfield. During the first 5 minutes both teams had good chances andBallymena were taking the game to us. Jack got our first point after a very good move with a good assist from Gareth. Shortly after this we broke down the right through Donal and pulled it back to be worked through the hands for Declan to crash to the net. At this stage we thought we would push on but Ballymena came right back at us and caused confusion at the heart of our defenceto be awarded a penalty. The Ballymena man struck the penalty well giving Jonathan no chance. At this time James Duffin was starting to get on the ball well and coming out from full forward he worked the ball in well to slot over a good point. Again we follwed this up with another goal from James again. Jack finished off the half with a final point to leave it 3-2 to 1-1. In the second half the defence worked very well and restricted Ballymena to 2 points. Ciaran McKendry demonstrated his point taking with a good move up the field from half back. Phelim Duffin was covering tremendously well across the pitch and intercepted numerous times to setup plenty of attacks. At this stage we got all our subs onto the pitch and everyone showed their hunger and desire to get on this team. Final score 3-7 to 1-3 for a good start to the league.
